Formed in Stockholm in 1999, Peter Bjorn and John is an indie-pop trio consisting of Peter Morén (vocals, guitar), Björn Yttling (bass, keyboards, vocals), and John Eriksson (drums, percussion, vocals). The band’s pitch-perfect alchemy of sounds and styles has seen them triumph for over two decades, making them a fixture in the music business. Their global breakthrough came with the 2006 album Writer’s Block, featuring the smash hit “Young Folks.” The song, which features guest vocals from Victoria Bergsman, became a top 20 hit in the UK and has since been used in numerous TV shows and films, including How I Met Your Mother and Gossip Girl. It has been recognized as one of the best indie songs of the era by publications like NME and Pitchfork. In 2007, Kanye West sampled the track on his mixtape Can’t Tell Me Nothing, later performing it live with the band at the Way Out West festival.
The band’s collaborative spirit also extends to other artists, including Swedish artist Freja The Dragon, with whom they collaborated on the 2019 song “Closer“. Additionally, Björn Yttling co-produced Freja’s debut EP, Long Gong Girl. With their ninth album, Endless Dream, Peter Bjorn and John continue to reflect on their journey together. “It’s astonishing we’re still around,” Morén reflects. “People around us say that we don’t act like friends – we act like brothers.” The unique creative chemistry they share ensures that every album feels like falling in love with music for the first time.
