Francesca Fiore is a deliberately hard-to-place project where influences and expressions blend into something unique. The artist himself cites Italian schlager and shoegaze as some kind of foundation – an embodiment of the album’s extroverted and introverted sides. The songs are often written based on a temporary fondness for a specific artist, but change form several times in a chameleon-like manner before the final result appears – something that often occurs in collaboration between Kristoffer and bassist Lucas Canziani. With a soundscape that effortlessly moves between reverb-drenched psychedelia from the USA and bassline-driven dreamy pop from the British Isles, Stockholm-based one-man band Francesca Fiore presented its debut album Forever Novelties and Whispers in the spring of 2024. The album, which should already be described as one of the most interesting of the year, has been created and recreated over a 9-year long, intricate process where no part was too small to receive full attention. The end result is a debut – brimming with epic melodies and surprising arrangements – that manages to sound both meticulously crafted and inspiringly curious at the same time.
